How arthritis can limit your everyday life

Osteoarthritis, a common form of arthritis, is the leading cause of disability in people over the age of 65.  The joints which are affected most commonly are the spine, knees, hips and some of the small joints of the hands and feet.  Due to gradual destruction of the joints, the following symptoms emerge:

PAIN:  The pain experienced by arthritics is typically aching in character.  Pain is commonly one of the first symptoms noticed and it usually appears gradually and may be intermittent at first.  It is precipitated by movement and load-bearing, and relieved by rest.  However, as the disease progresses, the pain will occur even at rest and often people are woken at night by the dull throbbing pain.

IMMOBILITY:  Fibrosis of the joint capsule means that the whole joint tightens up, decreasing the individual’s range of movement.  Another aspect of the disease is thickening of the bone resulting in bony swellings.  This extra bone can get in the way of normal joint movement .

MUSCLE WEAKNESS:  Muscles of the legs, hands and feet may waste away leaving the person with little strength to perform normal activities.

When all of the above factors are considered together, it can be understood why arthritic individuals face many struggles in their everyday lives.  Arthritis affecting the hip results in stiffness and pain which limits movement and exercise capacity.  Wasting of the muscles means that patients with hip or knee arthritis may not be able to walk properly or even support their own weight.  Climbing stairs also becomes problematic for many people.  Tender and swollen hands mean simple tasks like doing up buttons or shoe-laces become an arduous chore, and often these people need a lot of assistance just to get by.  Loosing their independence is quite a blow for many otherwise healthy people!

Thankfully there are some good osteoarthritis treatments which can slow the progression of the disease, relieve symptoms and restore some function.  Some people may benefit from physiotherapy or other exercise-based therapies.  Others require specific equipment such as knee braces or special footwear to stabilise and protect their vulnerable joints.  Drug therapies are used to relieve pain and to decelerate disease progression.  The last resort arthritis treatment is for those who continue to suffer despite drugs and other therapies; joint replacement surgery can often provide an individual with a new lease of life and allow them to participate once more in the activities that their arthritis had previously made impossible.

How to Cure Yeast Infection in Women ?

How to Cure Yeast Infection in Women – Learn How to Cure Yeast Infection in Women

Yeast Infection is a fungal infection of any of the Candida species, of which Candida albicans is probably the most common.Yeast organisms are always present in all people, but are usually prevented from “overgrowth” by naturally occurring microorganisms.

At least three quarters of all women will experience candidiasis at some point in their lives

Yeast infections can be disruptive and make a person’s life a misery; these infections tend to occur more in women than in men and although it is not well known the infection can be sexually transmitted. It is now recognized that this doesn’t have to be sexually transmitted as anyone can get a yeast infection.

The most common symptom of yeast infections is itchiness in and around the vagina. Sometimes a rash or redness appears near the vagina, and it might burn when you go to the toilet. During an infection, normal vaginal discharge  is often thicker or clumpier, and it may be whiter or yellowish or have an odor. Some people say the discharge looks like cottage cheese.

Yeast can pass from vagina to penis, and from penis or vagina to mouth. A yeast infection in the mouth or throat is called “thrush”. Condoms help to avoid passing it or getting it, but some women find that sex can irritate or worsen an infection.

One of the problems with a yeast infection is that it comes and goes and it is not easy to rid yourself of the condition for good, once you have suffered from it. Yeast infection can appear as dry, itchy patches or as little white spots or lumps around the genital area, this can be both uncomfortable and embarrassing.

A yeast infection might be compared to thrush and there are many prescribed and over the counter remedies that can be obtained for this condition. However, some of these remedies have distinct side effects and may cause the sufferer more problems than the initial infection. One such remedy is boric acid and this can make the person who takes it much more ill than they were in the first place.

Candida likes to grow in dark and damp places–a wet towel is a virtual petri dish for yeast. Sweaty or wet clothes also create a good environment for yeast to grow. That said, there are a few things you can do to reduce your changes of getting an infection: dry off quickly and thoroughly with a clean, dry towel after showering or swimming. Try wearing 100% cotton underwear–it lets your body breathe. You can also change your underwear every day and after exercising, and avoid wearing tight underwear, thongs, or pantyhose. It’s also a good idea to wear loose-fitting clothes to bed.

It is possible however, to rid yourself of yeast infection for good, along with symptoms such as rashes, itching and burning, fatigue, vaginal discharge, memory loss and urinary disorders, and the symptoms can change over time. Around seventy five percent of people suffer or have suffered from yeast infections without knowing what it is that’s making them feel so bad.

It is possible to alleviate the symptoms of yeast infections with creams and lotions from your doctor – but this doesn’t get rid of the condition because it just lays dormant until the next time. There are however, some natural treatment out there that will not only stop the symptoms but cure your yeast infection

How to make money online as a travel writer

To many the idea of earning money travel writing sounds like a dream job. Wandering the world, visiting exotic locales, meeting interesting people, seeing sights and having adventures while friends are chained to their desks back home, working 9-5, sounds great in and of itself. But what if you could get paid to write travel articles online? How great would it be to plunk down with your laptop under the shade of a palm tree and earn some bucks to help finance your journeys? This may sound like an impossible dream, but trust me when I tell you it is quite a realistic goal.

No longer do legions of travel writers have to fight for one of the rare, but immensely coveted jobs in the industry. The immense popularity of the internet as a vacation research tool has opened up a new and glorious opportunity for scribes who want to turn their travel experiences, tips and recommendations into cold, hard cash.

One of the simplest ways to start earning money traveling is by creating your own blog and documenting your travels. If you’ve never created your own blog before then a free blogging platform like Google’s Blogger is a good choice to get your feet wet. However, if you want to eventually make a living at this then I recommend bucking up for your own hosting and domain name, and create your travel blog on the WordPress platform. With an endless number of themes, plugins and widgets to play with you can customize the look and feel of your travel blog until you find the combination that works best for you.

Once you’ve got your blog set up you will need some content. Of course, if you are a travel writer this shouldn’t be a problem. If you are packing a laptop and a digital camera/video camera you can quickly and easily create articles and post them to your blog. Be very detailed and descriptive in your post, and try and target topics people will be searching for. If you are writing an article on Normandy, try and think of what you searched for when planning your own trip there. Tips on best restaurants, hotels, fun activities, historical sites etc are all highly searched and should bring a lot of traffic to your blog. Remember to include plenty of pictures and/or video. An interactive, visually arresting page will bring more visitors and also attract links from other travel websites.

Okay, so you’ve written some articles, and you’ve started to get some traffic to your website. How do you go about making money with your travel blog?

There are a number of ways to monetize your travel website, and as your website gets bigger and more popular you’ll find no shortage of money-making opportunities in this popular niche. If you are still a small fish in a big pond I recommend starting with Google Adsense. By incorporating Adsense into your website your visitors will be shown relevant, contextually targeted text and image ads that are integrated right into your content. If a visitor to your site clicks on one of those ads you will earn money. The more visitors you attract the more clicks you get, and the more money you earn. You’ll be surprised how quickly those pennies can add up, particularly in the lucrative travel niche. Best of all if you’ve taken care to write “evergreen” articles that don’t go stale and out of date your old articles will continue to earn for years to come, establishing a nice passive income.

A blog is a great way to earn money travel writing and to gain exposure for your work, but it certainly isn’t the only way to build an income stream. If you don’t have the time, inclination, or technical knowledge to start your own blog then there are a number of internet content sites that will pay you directly, or offer you a share in their own Google Adsense revenue, for writing for them. This is perfect for technophobes who simply want to write and share their travel experiences without having to worry about the initial expense and the ongoing maintenance of running a website.

Associated Content and Bukisa are two good options for writers wanting to earn direct passive income from their work. These are huge authority sites that get plenty of traffic, and each visitor to one of your articles will earn you a small royalty. The more articles you write and traffic you attract the more money you make. Of course, these are broad sites that allow you to write on any topic, so if you’ve run dry of travel stories you can always throw out an article on another topic like your favorite songs of the 80s, and you can earn money for that too.

Other sites like Infobarrel, Hubpages and Xomba operate in a similar fashion to the two mentioned above, but instead of paying you a royalty each time your content is viewed they instead pay you a share of the revenue your article earns. There is certainly more potential for profit under this business model, particularly if you are writing in a lucrative niche like travel. Again, these are big authority sites so there is a better chance that your articles will attain a high search engine ranking and thus attract more traffic. It is a win-win for the publishers and the authors alike. The publishers get valuable content that helps build their authority and bring visitors, and the authors get to reap the benefits of extra traffic they would likely never see on their own blogs.

As you can see there are plenty of options to earn money travel writing online. Grab a laptop, a digital camera and start documenting your vacation experiences. Be prolific and passionate and one day you can be living the dream as a full time travel writer.

How to properly store your printer inks

We all know how much money you can save by buying things in bulk. Want to save money on toilet paper? Get the 12-pack instead of the 6-pack. The same goes for printer inks. When you buy more ink cartridges at once, you can save a bundle. But what if you are not going to be using those cartridges for a long time? And what if you are going away for a long time and have already used some of your cartridges? This is when it helps to know how to properly store unused or used printer inks.

The first thing you need to do is get one zip-sealed bag for each printer cartridge. Place each cartridge in its own bag and then move on to the next step. It is important to use bags that are sealed with a zipper so that you can be sure that no more oxygen will get into the bag with your cartridge.

The second step is to add some moisture to the bag. Use a small towel or sponge and dip it into water to dampen it. Make sure that you wring out any excess water. While your fabric or sponge should be damp, it should not be dripping water. After you have wrung out your sponge, place one sponge in each of the zip-sealed bags where you plan to store your ink cartridges.

When it comes to actually storing your zipped bags, choose a place that is cool and dark. I prefer to use my closet that is in my office, as it is a practical place to store these cartridges.

As I mentioned before, this method can be used with both cartridges that have not been used and those that have. However, there is another step to take if you are using this process for a used cartridge. Before you store the cartridge, place a small piece of tape over the cartridge’s print head to keep it secure.

Keep in mind while preparing your cartridges to be stored that the cartridges’ print head is extremely delicate. Therefore, take all the care you can when getting your cartridges ready for storage.

While this method seems simple enough, it is a huge step that you can take to ensure that you don’t return from your vacation or leave of absence to find dried-out, clogged printer cartridges. However gratifying it is to buy things in bulk, it is equally as frustrating for those things to be ruined before you get to use them up!

Prink is a trusted resource for purchasing printer inks. Further information can be found on the Prink website. Wendy Moyer is an independent journalist.

How SEO packages can help your company

SEO packages refer to “search engine optimization” techniques.  Whereas some webmasters make the mistake of buying one or two articles, experienced webmasters know that it sometimes takes a lot more to reach the top of the rankings.  The goal is to feed the search engines constantly, providing plenty of new material on a regular basis.

Ask any company, old or new, and they will tell you that consistently promoting your product (or service) is the best way to stay in business and keep turning over a profit.  There are two primary ways you can do this online: through website optimization and through article marketing.  SEO packages combine the two technologies.

Web optimization and article marketing encompass a variety of avenues, from blogging to web copy to press releases.  A typical package may include 10-20 articles for web copy and article directories (of varying lengths) as well as a press release.  Remember that there are many article directories to work with such as EzineArticles.com, GoArticles.com, ArticlesBase.com and ArticleDashboard.com.  You never pay for your success—just a flat rate at the outset.  That means that from a small investment you could take in thousands of dollars of profit.

In addition to a high volume of articles, you must also regularly submit these articles.  An average package might provide you with 10 written articles but with 50 submissions spread out through a month’s time.  Article submissions have to be spread out evenly in order to encourage regular traffic, as opposed to one giant clump of traffic that dissipates quickly.

Trying SEO packages is the best way to invest in online advertising.  Not only are you improving your rankings because of search engine-friendly optimization, but you are also making a personal connection with your web audience.  It’s not enough to have a store set up.  It’s not enough to provide an “about us” feature on your homepage.  Success in the online world today requires a stream of high quality content and optimized web pages.

If you are interested in SEO packages then contact an SEO consultant and talk to the company about their services.  Remember, that the best SEO firms out there actively plan for your success.  They know how to build you a successful online campaign through blogging, article marketing and website optimization.  Your input is welcomed and will be added to the project.  However, an SEO firm’s specialty is taking care of all the hard work for you.

How to develop the writing habit-even if you don’t have the time to write

Writing takes time, which isn’t easy to find.

I know, because although I write for a living, I still don’t always spend enough time on the writing that I most want to do. Work, kids, vacuuming all get in the way. And for those people who aren’t writers by trade, but need or want to write for professional or business reasons, then you may need a little help developing your writing habit.

The following simple steps can help you write more often and with better results.

1. Write Every Day
Developing a habit means doing something regularly. Therefore you should do your best to find time to write every day. It doesn’t have to be a long period of time, even fifteen minutes will do if that’s all you can spare. The key is to practice every day!

2. Set Manageable Writing Goals
Books are written one sentence at a time, so don’t fall into the trap of only sitting down to write when you have several hours at a time to devote to your work. Even if you only have time to put down a paragraph, that’s progress.

3. Don’t Stress About Writing
When you over-think your writing projects, they can seem bigger and more important . . . and much more intimidating than they really should be. Just sit down and write; don’t make a big deal out of it. The true beauty of a manuscript doesn’t appear until a few revisions, anyways. Just put your words on paper.

4. When You’re Writing, Write Without Your Inner Critic
Another part of letting loose and approaching writing with confidence is allowing yourself to write terrible sentences and paragraphs just to put something on the page and get through blocks. Don’t rework sentences until you’ve completed an entire draft-it will only slow you down and make writing more difficult.

5. Get Feedback on Your Writing
At some point, you have to start sharing what you’re working on with people who can provide encouragement and insight into how to improve. Try to aim for a balance of supporters, like best friends and parents, with professional opinions, which won’t always be as easy to swallow as a big cheer from mom.

Anyone who wants to write can do it. Discipline is the key, and catching the writing habit doesn’t hurt, either. With these tips, you can write better and faster than you ever imagined.

Debt management – How to find legitimate settlement companies online?

There are two types of problems that you should protect yourself against when searching for a debt settlement company. The first is that you should avoid fraudulent settlement companies. These companies operate fraudulently with their customers as well as with the lenders. They try to position themselves as the sole point of communication between the lender and the borrower.

The end result is that they cook up what ever stories they want and convey the same in a bid to earn maximum profits. They will try to seek a 70% waiver from the lenders and will convey that only 40% or 50% waiver has been obtained from the lender when talking to the borrower.

This may be very outrageous and a blatant attempt to cheat the individual. However, there have been numerous such instances where settlement companies were caught only because the borrower was very vigilant.

Dealing with a fraud settlement company and appointing such a person as your agent is obviously going to lead to many problems. Lenders may conclude that you too are fraudulent and may initial legal action against you. Relations between you and the lender may be affected to such an extent that it becomes next to impossible to talk of a waiver, discount or any other assistance.

The second problem that you should guard yourself against is to deal with a genuine but inefficient settlement company. If you deal with a settlement company that
- does not even put things in writing and
- simply presumes that the final agreement has been concluded,
then you’ll end up in lots of trouble.

The lenders may raise their hands and say that they never agreed to a settlement in the first place. All your attempts to postpone repayment and your attempts to settle at a very low amount will become illegal.

You will have to check out both factors when searching for settlement companies. If we ignore even one, chances are high that you’ll end up being either cheated or penalized in a court of law.

Rather than dealing with these aspects separately, it makes sense to combine all this and work on them together when you are searching for settlement. Make use of online resources that will help you get in touch with service providers that fulfill both these points. You can also make use of other online resources to know more about the efficiency and the legality of various service providers.

If you are over $10k in unsecured debt it would be financially prudent for you to consider a debt settlement. How to care for someone with urinary incontinence

How can I talk to my loved one about incontinence?

Realize it’s normal to feel uncomfortable. There are some discussions between close relatives, especially a parent and child, that many of us would rather avoid: Talking to your own children about sex is probably not something many parents can glide through without some discomfort. Equally difficult, or perhaps even more so, is broaching the subject of incontinence with the very person who used to change your diapers when you were an infant.

Whether or not the person you’re caring for has memory problems or dementia, the topic of incontinence is challenging. “Society has programmed us to view bodily functions as dirty and private, and when you’re dealing with a parent, having such a discussion isn’t a natural thing to do,” says Carol Jones, a family consultant with the Mountain Caregiver Resource Center in Mount Shasta, California.

Avoid denying there’s a problem. When talking to adult children who are caregivers, Jones found that they often have such a hard time dealing with incontinence that they pretend it’s not happening. “Sometimes the biggest problem is that the caregiver is embarrassed and feels the need to cover up the accidents, even denying that the person is incontinent.”

Don’t assume the person is trying to punish you. Another pitfall, particularly if the person has dementia, is the misperception that he’s having accidents “on purpose,” as a way of gaining control, according to Jones, yet that’s rarely the case.

Communicate about the problem. To overcome these emotional obstacles, Jones recommends tackling the topic head on. “The best way to do it is to speak frankly and say, ‘We’re in this together. I know this is embarrassing for you, and it’s hard to depend on someone else for bodily functions, but I want to work on this with you to make it easier.’” Of course, if the person you’re caring for has dementia or Alzheimer’s, you may need to use a different approach.

How can I help my incontinent loved one have fewer accidents?

Take him to the doctor. First, if the person you’re caring for hasn’t seen the doctor, he should make an appointment or you should make one for him. Incontinence isn’t a normal part of aging; it could be a sign of, say, a urinary tract infection. Medications could also be the cause, or accidents could be a sign of another medical problem, such as an enlarged prostate in a man.

If the person has already seen his doctor and medical treatment hasn’t solved his incontinence, you can try a number of things to make it less of a problem. Make sure there’s nothing to slow him down when he needs to urinate. One impediment to getting to the toilet on time could be the clothes he’s wearing. Jones used to run an adult daycare center, and a big obstacle to reaching the toilet was the men’s pants: “I live in cowboy country, and men would come in with button-front jeans, and by the time they got to the bathroom, there’s no way they weren’t going to wet themselves.” An easy solution is to make sure your father wears pants with a large zipper fly or an elastic waistband.

Another option is to check with your local medical supply store to inquire about installing handrails and grab bars to make it easier for him to get to the toilet, or look into buying a bedside commode or urinal for him to use at night.

Help set up a toilet schedule. If the doctor hasn’t told you how to set up a toilet schedule, it’s easy enough to do. It tends to work best with stress incontinence (this is a result of weak pelvic floor muscles, and is often triggered by sneezing, laughing, coughing, or lifting; it’s more common in women) and urge incontinence (when a person has a strong urge to urinate and leaks urine before reaching the toilet). Urge incontinence often occurs in people who have diabetes, stroke, dementia, or Parkinson’s disease.

Try keeping a diary or have him log the times when he urinates for a period of two or three days. Once you’ve figured out when he typically needs to relieve himself, set up a schedule so that he heads to the toilet before he’d typically need to go.

Watch the fluids before bed. Of course, how much fluid he drinks will affect how often he needs to urinate. People often assume that withholding fluids will help incontinence. However, barring a medical directive from the doctor, your parent should drink fluids throughout the day to avoid dehydration and cut down on fluids in the evening so he doesn’t need to go as often at night.

Consider other possible triggers. What the person drinks and eats can affect incontinence. Anything with caffeine, for example, may irritate the bladder and should be reduced or eliminated. “Coffee, colas, and chocolate will cause your parent to have to go much more often, as will alcohol — though I’m not talking about an occasional glass of wine,” says Jones. Spicy foods, carbonated beverages, and foods with high acidity like tomatoes, peppers, and citrus are also bladder irritants and are best avoided. “If he has orange juice in the morning, try switching to apple juice,” suggests Jones.

Learn about incontinence products. Long gone are the days when wearers of incontinence products felt as though they were carrying around a log in their pants; today there are plenty of comfortable products to choose from. There are briefs of different sizes and shapes, male and female briefs, some that look like a classic diaper, and some that appear no different from underwear. A variety of cleansers, moisturizers, and skin barriers can protect your parent’s skin against developing sores.

How to avoid being ripped off when meeting an online seller offline

A recent news report highlights the dangers of meeting an online seller offline. The buyer spotted a car for sale on a classified ads website and agreed to meet the buyer offline. When the two met, the buyer was ambushed, then beaten, kicked and stabbed, before the £5,000 he was carrying for the sale of the car was stolen.

The buyer ended up in hospital and needed open heart surgery.

The transaction was due to take place in daylight in a busy part of London. The buyer arrived at the pre-arranged location and called the sellers mobile when he couldn’t see the car he intended to buy. It was at this point the buyer was set upon.

It has to be said that this kind of incident is extremely rare, but you should always be very cautious when meeting a seller offline, especially if you will be carrying a lot of cash with you.

Here are several suggestions on how to avoid getting mugged when meeting an online seller offline.

Do not meet the seller alone
Try to take at least one person with you. If you can take more, do so. If you know anyone who looks particularly scary, he/she should be at the top of your list.

Meet in a public place
This happened in the incident I mentioned above, but it still remains good advice. Meeting in a cafe or coffee shop would be better than meeting in a pub or on the street.

Ask the seller to come to your home
Most sellers would prefer not to come to you, but it is worth asking if this is possible.

Avoid paying the full amount on your first meeting
Do not take all the cash you need for the sale on your first meeting. Use it as an opportunity for you to examine the item you are going to buy. If you like it, leave a deposit and agree to meet again, preferably at the buyers home, to complete the sale. The alarm bells should be sounding if the seller is not keen on this.

Ask the seller for his/her home phone number
Speaking to somebody gives you more of an insight into his/her persona than an email ever will. Before you arrange to meet the seller try to get hold of their home telephone number and ask some personal questions about where they live, what they do, why they are selling the item you want to buy etc. The answers provided and the reactions to your questions will help you to decide whether or not the seller is genuine.

If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is
Don’t be fooled into thinking you are getting a bargain. If someone is selling an item for a lot less than the usual price, steer clear. It could be fake or you could be being set up.
