How to dispose of old credit cards

There are numerous ways to get rid of old credit cards – stick them in a blender, put them in a bath of acid, put them in a microwave or buy some dynamite and blow them up!

I wouldn’t recommend any of these methods as there is a certain degree of danger attached to each one!

The best, and safest, way to dispose of old credit cards is to cut them up using a pair of scissors.

On each card there is several important pieces of information which can be used by identity thieves. All of this information needs to be made unreadable.

The first cut to make is right through the middle of the long number across the front of the card, next is the three digit security number on the back of the card.

Once you are satisfied these details are no longer readable you can cut up the rest of the pieces which contain numbers or letters.

There are no hard and fast rules, just go to town on the card with a pair of scissors and make sure no one piece contains too much information.

Once you are done cutting up the numbers and digits, you can turn your attention the the hologram or chip and give that the same treatment.

Once you have finished you should be left with a pile of little pieces of plastic. Do not throw all of the debris into one bin, instead you should dispose of it over a short period of time.

Kids, don’t try this as home
