How to Boil Potatoes

boiling potatoesBoiling potatoes is very easy and simple to do. Firstly, place the required amount of potatoes you need into a colander, rinse them under cold water for around 30 seconds. Shake off excess water.

Decide if you are going to keep the skin on the potatoes or not. If not, peel them thinly then chop each potato (depending on its size) into 2-3 chunks.

Rinse the potatoes again in the colander then place in a large / medium pan. Add cold water to the pan, enough so that the top of the potatoes are covered inside.

Turn the gas / electric on to high position and wait until the water begins to boil (this will take around 5 minutes depending on how much water you have in the pan).

Once the water has reached boiling point, turn the heat down slightly and let them cook for around 20 minutes. You will be able to tell the potatoes are cooked if you try slicing one of them with a knife, it should be easy to cut, not hard.

Drain potatoes by pouring the pan and contents into a colander, give a little extra shake to remove any excess water. Return the potatoes to the pan, season as required then serve.
