How to Avoid and Get Rid of Athlete’s Foot

How to avoid getting athlete's foot

Athlete’s foot causes pain, itching and burning to the toes and feet. Despite it being very common foot fungus, it can be easily avoided if you follow some simple steps.

  • Try to wash your feet twice a day with a perfume free soap
  • Wash between your toes, and dry thoroughly with your own foot towel at all times – never use the same towel for any other part of the body
  • For athlete’s foot you will need an antifungal powder, cream or spray which you can buy over the counter at your local store
  • Keep applying the antifungal agent to the affected areas until the condition has cleared up (always read the instructions on any over the counter products first before applying)
  • Ideally if you wear socks they need to be made from either cotton or wool, natural fibres do not make you sweat as much as synthetic ones
  • If you tend to do quite a lot of sport or your feet tend to sweat a lot, then always keep a spare pair of socks with you to change into
  • If possible, try to wear well ventilated shoes / trainers or sandals

Remember
If you are unsure as to whether you actually have athlete’s foot, it is always best to get checked out by your local doctor or GP.
