Guidelines for Writers

At EverydayHowTo.net we publish ‘how to’ articles. The articles published on here range from how to boil an egg through to how to get back on your financial feet after a divorce, and stops at many places in between.

The internet is a wonderful platform to market your business and a great how to article is the perfect place to demonstrate your expertise in whatever niche you occupy.

Writing for Us – What’s in it for You?

  • More exposure for your website, products or service
  • More links to your website
  • Increased brand awareness
  • The possibility of increased traffic and sales

Type of Articles Accepted

At EverydayHowTo we cover subjects from all aspects of life, business and death. But there are some subjects we won’t even consider publishing – illegal activities, anything that promotes or encourages violence, hatred, racism, drugs, porn, abuse etc. If you can avoid these subjects and write how to guides on topics people find useful we would love to work with you.

Article Guidelines

  • All articles must be original and not published online anywhere else
  • Each article must contain at least 450 words (no maximum)
  • You can include one link to your own site(s) within the body of the article
  • To your post we sometimes add one internal link which points to another page on EverydayHowTo.net
  • You can add a further two links to the article to online resources such as Wikipedia or government sites
  • You can include a maximum of two links in the author bio (if you use it*)
  • Do not include links to affiliate products
  • Your article must not be self promotional
  • Do not place hyperlinks in sub-headers
  • We source images from flickr which are published with a Creative Commons license
  • We do our best to publish articles within 24 hours of submission

Article Approval

We don’t publish every article submitted to us. Sometimes it’s the topic we don’t like, other times it’s because the article isn’t well written or does not deliver on what the title suggests.

It’s important to us to only publish great content that reads well and is informative.

About the Author

Some people who write for us do so on behalf of clients. Others do so for themselves. If you submit an article to promote yourself we suggest you complete the user author bio box and include a Gravatar. By default the author bio box is set not to display, but if you want to use it and have it displayed under each of your articles, just let us know and we will enable it on your user.

If you don’t want to use the in-built author bio box, that’s fine, instead you can add a couple of sentences to the end of your article.

Uploading Images

Users are not allowed to add images to their posts.

Deleted Articles

Occasionally we delete articles that do not grab the attention of our readers. We use Google Analytics to track user behaviour on the site. Each week we look at the data to see which articles are read and which are ignored. We look at bounce rate, time on the page and other factors to determine the success (or otherwise) of an article.

When an article does not grab the readers attention we might ask you to rewrite it, but we might just delete it.

Please bear this in mind when writing your article and try to produce the best content you possibly can.

Advertising

Income for EverydayHowTo is generated through advertising and the promotion of affiliate products. Advertising appears on almost every page, but we don’t overtly promote affiliate products. However, you should be aware that we may link to an affiliate product from a page containing your article.

Keep paragraphs short, use lists, bold text and feel free to link to relevant articles on this site if you can.

One last thing, write for your audience and not for search engines.

If you have any questions please contact us.

Thank you for taking the time to read the guidelines.
