How to get rid of slugs in your garden

If you ask ten people to suggest a way of getting rid of slugs in a garden, the likelihood is you you will receive ten different answers.
Here are some of the answers you are likely to hear:
- Encourage slug eating birds into your garden by offering food, bird tables and nesting boxes
- Place a small glass jar into soil and fill it with lettuce leaves – this will entice the slugs into the jar enabling you to catch them without afflicting pain. Dispose of the slugs outside the garden area
- Placing a small circle of coffee grounds around a plant will act as a deterrent; slugs dislike caffeine
- Place crushed eggshells around the base of your pots; slugs will not cross over them
- Comfrey placed around the edge of flower beds and under rocks will give slugs an alternative food source; they seem to prefer comfrey to a lot of plants
- Purchase copper strips from your local garden centre and place around the base of your pots; the copper will give the slugs a tiny shock like static electricity
- Pick up slugs using a trowel or similar instrument and remove from your garden area
